Dr. Lisa Leff: The French Jewish Experience – A Recap

The French Jewish Experience: A Recap with Dr. Lisa Leff

For a thousand years, French Jews have swung on a pendulum from triumph to tragedy. Some of the greatest Jewish rabbis, composers and thinkers, going as far back as Rashi and his grandson Rebenu Tam, have made France their home. Yet despite their wide-ranging successes, France’s Jews are no strangers to the woes of the modern Jewish experience.

The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center has been proud to sponsor a 7-part lecture series in collaboration with the Copernic Synagogue in Paris to explore that complex story, at once so familiar and entirely alien to many American Jews.

The two lectures canceled in the spring have now been rescheduled, and before they begin, the series’ designer, Dr. Lisa Leff, will provide an overview of the ground covered.

A scholar of French Jewry, Dr. Leff is Director of the Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Professor of History at American University.

This program is sponsored by The Streicker Family and Dr. Masha Mimran.

We are happy to offer these webinars free of charge in these challenging times and hope you enjoy them. Any contribution to support our efforts is appreciated.
