Contact Amber Stolz if you wish to read to a student in grades K-3 who needs encouragement in learning to read. Minimum Commitment is 1 hour/week, but more is glady welcomed. Placement, training and support are provided. See below for a more detailed summary.
We need you and they need you!! Are you thinking about adding volunteer service to your list of “To-Dos”? What could be better than helping a young child learn to read by participating in our READ ALOUD program at New London’s Jennings, Nathan Hale, and Harbor Schools, Groton’s Pleasant Valley School, or Norwich’s Huntington School. We ask for one hour, once a week, to tutor one to two children in grades 1-3. The Eastern Connecticut Jewish Coalition for Literacy, sponsored by the JFEC will provide a multi-media training program, training manual, supplies, supervision and books. You provide the dedication and caring to help children who struggle with basic reading. You can pick the day of the week and the hour you wish to volunteer. We will work with the schools to find a child to work with you. |
